Chef Chrissy's Tovala King Cake

Celebrate Mardi Gras in style at home! You'll be ready to party when you pull this King Cake out of your Tovala.

Ingredients

Dough

2.25 tsp. yeast

1/4 cup warm water

2 tsp. + 2 tbsp. sugar

2 tbsp. butter, melted

8 oz. sour cream

1/2 tsp. salt

1 egg

3.25 cups all-purpose flour

Filling

8 oz. cream cheese

1 egg

1/3 cup sugar

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla

Jam

Frosting

1.5 cups powdered sugar

1.5 tbsp. melted butter

1.5 tbsp. milk

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Green, yellow, and purple sprinkles

Instructions:

Put yeast in a bowl with warm water and 2 tsp. sugar. Let sit ~10 minutes for yeast to activate.

Add butter, sour cream, remaining 2 tbsp. sugar, salt, egg, and flour to the bowl.

Using the hook attachment of an electric mixer, work the dough for 5-10 minutes until the dough is elastic and doesn't tear when pulled.

Allow dough to rise in a greased bowl for an hour or until doubled in size.

Make the filling by combining cream cheese, egg, sugar, salt, and vanilla.

Roll out the dough into a ~20 inch long rectangle. Fill with cream cheese mixture and jam.

Roll dough into a log and form into a circle on Tovala sheet tray.

Bake cake using QR code (above right).

Whisk together powdered sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and milk to make the frosting.

Let cake cool before frosting and topping with sprinkles.
